Imam Taiyib as ni Wiladat ane Satr ni Tayari
Imam Taiyib as ni Wiladat ane Satr ni Tayari
Imam al-Tayyib Abul Qasim (AS), the 21st Imam of the Fatemi Imamat, holds a unique and deeply significant place in Islamic history. His birth marked not only the continuation of the sacred lineage of Imams but also the beginning of a new and profound phase known as Satr — the period of concealment. This phase would shape the future of Dawat and ensure the preservation of true guidance through divine wisdom.
Blessed Birth of Imam al-Tayyib (AS)
Imam al-Tayyib (AS) was born on 4th Rabi al-Akhar, 524 Hijri (1130 A.D.). The news of his blessed birth was conveyed by his father, Imam al-Aamir (AS), to the great queen of Yemen, Maulatona Arwa al-Sulayhi (RA), through a special royal proclamation known as Sijill al-Bisharat — a message of glad tidings.
In this honored communication, Imam al-Aamir (AS) addressed Maulatona Arwa (RA) with several exalted titles, including al-Hurra (the noble and free lady). He clearly declared that Imam al-Tayyib (AS) was his rightful successor (nass) and instructed her to spread this announcement across Yemen and beyond.
This proclamation was delivered by Shareef Mohammed bin Haidara, along with a simple yet meaningful personal item — an old cloth (rumal) sent as a tashreef (token of honor) from the Imam.
The Symbolism of the Rumal
When Shareef Mohammed reached Yemen and presented the sijill to Maulatona Arwa (RA), he initially forgot to present the cloth. Upon being asked if any personal item had been sent from the Imam, he replied in the negative.
However, a few days later, he discovered the cloth among his belongings and immediately delivered it to Maulatona Arwa (RA). Upon seeing it, she was deeply moved and tears filled her eyes.
When those present asked about the reason for her emotional reaction, she explained that this worn cloth was not ordinary — it was a subtle yet powerful indication that Imam al-Aamir (AS) would soon attain shahadat. Her insight reflected her deep understanding and spiritual connection.
Shahadat of Imam al-Aamir (AS)
As foreseen, Imam al-Aamir (AS) was martyred on 3rd Zilqadat al-Haram, 526 Hijri (1132 A.D.) in Cairo. He was attacked with a poisoned dagger by enemies associated with the Nizari faction.
In his final moments, Imam al-Aamir (AS) gathered the hudood (high-ranking officials of Dawat) and publicly affirmed the nass upon his son, Imam al-Tayyib (AS). He also appointed his relative, Abdul-Majeed al-Hafiz, as a temporary regent to manage the affairs of Dawat until Imam al-Tayyib (AS) reached maturity.
Betrayal and the Rise of Fitna
Soon after, Abdul-Majeed betrayed this trust. Instead of remaining a caretaker, he falsely claimed the position of Imam and Ameer al-Mumineen for himself. This led to widespread chaos, political instability, and persecution in Egypt.
Many loyal hudood and followers of the true Imam were killed. The situation became extremely dangerous, especially for the young Imam al-Tayyib (AS), who was only around two years old at that time.
Beginning of Satr (Concealment)
In accordance with divine wisdom, Imam al-Tayyib (AS) entered Satr — a state of concealment — to protect his life and ensure the continuation of the true Imamat.
Despite severe pressure and threats, Maulatona Arwa (RA) refused to accept the false claim of Abdul-Majeed. Her unwavering faith and courage became a cornerstone in preserving the legitimacy of Imam al-Tayyib (AS).
Role of Maulatona Arwa (RA)
From 526 Hijri until her wafaat in 532 Hijri (1138 A.D.), Maulatona Arwa (RA) continued to lead and manage the affairs of Dawat on behalf of Imam al-Tayyib (AS).
In her final days, she prepared a detailed will (wasiyyat), instructing that her personal wealth, treasures, and precious jewels be delivered to Imam al-Tayyib (AS). This document was extremely detailed, describing each item’s color, weight, and characteristics over several pages.
She also appointed multiple witnesses to validate this will, including one from Hind, ensuring its authenticity and preservation.
The Greatest Trust – Dawat al-Tayyibiyyah
Beyond material wealth, Maulatona Arwa (RA) entrusted something far greater — the continuation of Dawat through the institution of Doat Mutlaqeen.
This system ensured that, during the period of Satr, the mission of the Imam would continue uninterrupted. For centuries, the Doat have carried forward this sacred responsibility in the name of Imam al-Tayyib (AS), preserving knowledge, faith, and unity among believers.
Conclusion
The birth of Imam al-Tayyib (AS) marked the beginning of a spiritually significant era. His entry into Satr was not a setback, but a divine strategy to protect the true Imamat during a time of great turmoil.
The unwavering loyalty of Maulatona Arwa (RA) and the establishment of Dawat ensured that the light of guidance continued to shine, even in concealment.
This chapter of history teaches us the values of faith, patience, loyalty, and trust in divine wisdom — lessons that remain relevant for all generations.
